Skip tooth chain has fewer cutters than a standard full-comp chain, leaving more space between cutters for chips to clear. This makes it an excellent choice when running longer guide bars and cutting larger-diameter wood, where chip clearance and reducing the number of cutters in the cut can be beneficial.

Skip tooth is a great choice for:

For shorter bars and general-purpose cutting, a standard full-comp chain is typically the better choice. Skip tooth becomes more beneficial as bar length and the amount of wood engaged in the cut increase.
